Two For The Show

This past Sunday, took both the Shelby G.T. 350 and the Daytona Cobra Coupe to the 11th Annual Tony Sousa Memorial Shelby Car Show on the Santa Monica Pier. Nephew Patrick did the 'Shelby driving duties' and I drove the Daytona Cobra Coupe. Beautiful day and beautiful setting! So here's a few of the sights from the Pier...

We arrived just after sun-up...

The Santa Monica Pier Show capacity is about 100 cars, and we had a terrific turnout! Cobras, Daytonas, Shelbys were all well represented, along with numerous late-models and specialty cars! There was something for everyone to see and speak with the enthusiastic owners.

The two recently completed R-Models made an appearance. These cars were built by the original Venice crew, along with Peter Brock, who built the originals in the '60s. These cars (#98i and #98), however, sport a number of enhancements that could not be completed in the extremely short construction timeframe they had back in the day.

Several Cobras made an appearance:

Shelbys were well represented...

Daytonas (Daytoni?) were also out in force....

...along Daytona Row....

But here's the thing...Thank You to the Los Angeles Shelby American Automobile Club (LASAAC) for this fantastic annual car show on the Santa Monica Pier! This show hosts some of the finest examples of Carroll Shelby’s historic cars, along with really terrific Shelbyphiles (is that really a word?) and good friends.

It’s even more humbling when you’re showing alongside seven other ’66 Shelbys and four other Daytona Cobra Coupes of equal quality. One does not expect to receive a trophy. However, from a personal perspective, what makes this unique car show even sweeter is leaving with two 1st place trophies: one for ’66 Shelby G.T. 350 and one for Daytona Cobra Coupe Replica. Because these cars are judged by each show participant, I felt very honored and humbled by my peers, so a big Thank You for your votes…you know who you are! We came into the Show with two Shelby automobiles and we left the Shelby Show with certainly more than that when it was over.

...and two from the Show...
