Carroll's Tribute – 2017

The Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car Show was calendared this year for May 20th at Carroll's old HQ on Figueroa Street in Gardena, California. This historical place contains memories that date back to the Sixties.

The site's footprint was originally Carroll's Goodyear Racing Tire distributorship which opened in 1960 when he (finally) retired from race driving, though as you likely know, he didn't retire all together! In fact, Carroll never retired!

The Tribute Show Day started early for both nephew Patrick and me. Patrick came to the ShelbyGarage to drive the Shelby to the Tribute and I drove the Daytona Coupe.

Here's a short video of our departure...

...and, an arrival photo!

There was (as usual) quite a variety of cars at the Show, from very numerous late-model Shelbys...

...and a great turnout of early Shelbys & Cobras...

Yes, that's Randy Richardson lurking around the Cobras...

Just one of Lynn Park's many, many Cobras...

This year, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the '67 G.T. 350 and G.T. 500 and there were several in attendance.

Doze Eyez!! 👀

Also appearing....The '66 Shelby IRS by the Original Venice Crew (OVC), displayed in such a way that showcased the underside elements of the car!

Another piece of history on display was Don 'The Snake' Prudhomme's SOHC dragster...Along with Don Prudhomme!

And SFM6S2060 was proudly on display...

One of the fun events was the tricycle races and there were several. Here's one that was particularlly competitive...

One Mr. Allen Grant....

Pitted against a certain Michael Holmes....just look at that determination!

...and, they're off!

And closing at the finish line!

There were awards for many of the cars in the show, and I'm very grateful that the Daytona Cobra Coupe was able to bring home some award 'hardware'!

And, this is why we do a Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car Show every year....

Thank you to the Carroll Shelby Foundation and all the folks who work tirelessly behind the scenes for your good work and for putting together another very memorable event in honor of Carroll Shelby!
